A Center for Health & Wellbeing provides CONFIDENTIAL counseling services at no charge to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office and the Coroner-Public Administrator/Public Guardian Office employees and their family members.  We have been providing these services for 11 years so we are familiar with the stresses that go hand-in-hand with the work of law enforcement.  Law enforcement personnel and their family members experience unique stressors given what they are exposed to on a day-to-day basis, and therefore, require a more specialized kind of employee assistance program.

WHY IS THE EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM PROVIDED?

We all experience personal problems from time to time in our lives.  Most of the time we can solve our problems on our own.  However, we live in a high pressure, high stress society.  The nature of law enforcement related work adds to that stress.  In fact, this type of work can exact a considerable toll, even on those who are well-adjusted and free from emotional disorder.

Routine exposure to dangerous situations is mentally draining and can cause personal stress as well.  This is not news to those who have worked in this field any length of time.  Those who are new to the profession may be under the impression that the inherent stress may affect others, but not themselves.  Studies show this to be untrue.  Personal stress tends to accumulate over time and can become chronic.  When this happens, one can become mentally and/or physically exhausted or experience what is commonly known as "burnout."

A goal of the Fresno County Sheriff's Office, and the Coroner-Public Administrator/Public Guardian Office is to promote and maintain a healthy and productive workforce--their most valuable resource.  These offices recognize that over the span of a career, any employee may experience periods of stress.  Employees who are physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually healthy are better prepared to perform their duties, and to serve and protect the citizens in our community.  In response to this goal, these offices contract with A Center for Health & Wellbeing to provide specialized employee assistance services.
